Autumn progresses in Tokyo, where mornings are beginning to feel chilly. This month, the Noripy expedition team would like to introduce you to “Tokyo Station.”  Within this single station, you can find Japan’s history, contemporary trends, delicious cuisine, and it feels like you could experience all of Tokyo’s attractions in just one stop.  Even though it’s autumn, Noripy appears with sleeveless clothing? Well, the enthusiastic Noripy tends to get a little sweaty (haha, laughter).

Tokyo Station Building

A brick-built station building that opened in 1914. The Tokyo Station Hotel, located inside the station building, opened the following year.
The station is said to be as spacious as 3.6 times Tokyo Domes.
When you look up at the interior of the station building’s dome, you’ll be captivated by its beautiful design.

Marunouchi side

You can view the large station from various angles. For instance, you can observe the station building’s front with the high-rise buildings of Yaesu side as a backdrop, or you can look at it through the windows above the surrounding high-rise buildings. The greenery of pine trees and grass in front of the station is also gorgeous.

Yaesu and Jan Joosten

Did you know that the name “Yaesu” is derived from Jan Joosten, a Dutchman who served under Tokugawa Ieyasu?
The history of this connection is shown beside the bust of Jan Joosten in the Yaesu underground town.

Character Street Underground Mall

Tokyo Station’s underground mall is a treasure trove of fun and deliciousness. It’s the perfect place for those who want to buy character merchandise as souvenirs, and they also have Gashapon machines.

Nearby information

If you want to walk towards Hibiya/Ginza from Marunouchi, please take Marunouchi Nakadori. Although it is located in the business district, it is a very fashionable and enjoyable street. You can also enjoy the bench with surprising objects. The view of Imperial Palace Square can be seen from nearby high-rise buildings.

KITTE

Noripy’s favorite high-rise building directly connected to Tokyo Station. As soon as you step through the main entrance, you will be overwhelmed by the regularly changing objects.

Foodie’s Delight

Ramen Street in Tokyo Station’s underground: A street filled with various ramen shops to choose from. It’s a popular destination for foreign tourists, and foodies will be thoroughly satisfied!
