The Noripy Exploration Team, always seeking “Tokyo’s delights”. Basking in the midsummer sun, this month’s expedition led us to Odaiba, where we encountered Gundam. There’s also a nighttime view. Allow us to introduce a waterfront playground where both children and adults can have fun.

Huge!

A life-sized Unicorn Gundam statue. It stands at the Festival Plaza of DiverCity in Odaiba. Its height is nearly 20 meters, and it weighs around 49 tons. Noripy, aiming her camera up at Gundam, can’t even reach the base of its feet.Several times a day, visitors can witness transformation sequences.

Rainbow Bridge

The emblem of Odaiba. It is a pleasure to appreciate its panoramic view from a distance, or to look up at it from below while aboard a ship. You can relish the sea breeze alongside seagulls. Also, remember not to miss the night view of lit up Rainbow Bridge and Statue of Liberty.

Tokyo International Cruise Terminal

“If you’re arriving at Tokyo by ship, here is the gateway. The Tokyo International Cruise Terminal is where large cruise ships from around the world arrive.”

Gantry Crane and Sunset from the Promenade

A waterfront promenade leading from the international cruise terminal to bustling commercial facilities. The view of the Sunset from here is also deeply captivating. The gantry crane, reminiscent of a giraffe, diligently works on loading and unloading containers.

Abundant Indoor Entertainment

On the 4th floor of Decks Tokyo Beach, you can find attractions like Tokyo Trick Art Museum and the amusement park Tokyo Joypolis. Even in inclement weather, you can enjoy yourself indoors to the fullest.
Shopping at Dagashi-ya (traditional Japanese candy store) is also extremely popular. Noripy was surprised to encounter a Ninja.

Origin and History of Odaiba

In the late Edo period, with the purpose of defense against foreign powers, the Tokugawa Shogunate constructed some artificial islands by reclaiming land from the sea and installing batteries. This marks the origin of Odaiba. Some remnants of this artificial island still remain just below the Rainbow Bridge.

Nighttime Gundam

The nighttime Gundam is equally impressive. As the music starts playing in response, anticipation reaches its peak. Illuminated, the Gundam moves and roars!

Foodie’s Delight

At the Takoyaki Museum, you can sample takoyaki from all over Japan. At the entrance of the Tokyo Ramen Kokugikan (National Ramen Stadium), the beckoning cat we introduced last month was inviting with raised left and right paws, saying, ‘Come, come!’
